Sonrisas- “Smiles”   Curriculum for students kindergarten – 3rd grade

​

 

Sonrisas is a curriculum that I purchased and use to teach my younger students. It is a wonderfully engaging curriculum that incorporates songs, poems, chants, story time, arts/crafts, and circle time to give students the skills to communicate in Spanish. Lessons have a small amount of vocabulary so mastery is very attainable. Review is also built into each lesson, so the reinforcement never stops. The amazing thing about this class is that students are speaking Spanish and communicating from day one. It has been such a joy teaching this class and seeing young students able to speak Spanish.

 

This class meets once a week, for one hour. The class fee, though dependent on class size is maximum $360/year. I do offer sibling discounts.

Español Para Ti

“Spanish For You”

Curriculum for students 4th – 6/7th grade

 

Spanish For You is a curruculum that I purchased. This class involves partner work for conversation and projects. As Spanish requires lots of practice, this class does have work to be done at home. There is a family home packet that will need to be purchased for each family, NOT each student. These usually run $34 for each year. There is a different theme focus for each year. Topics include: My Life, Weather, How are you?. There are several more.

 

This class meets once a week for one hour. The The class fee, though dependent on class size is maximum $360/year. I do offer sibling discounts.

Español Para Ti: (Spanish For You) Grades 4th-6th

Duration: September 12th - May 15th, breaks at holidays

Charlemos- “Let's Chat”  Curriculum for students 7th grade and above

        Curriculum for students in 7th grade – high school

High school Spanish 1

2-3 year course OR 1 year course

 

Charlemos is a curriculum that I have developed. This is a conversation and communication based curriculum. I offer this class in two versions. This will depend on the age and motivation of the students enrolled in the class. Both classes will end with the student receiving high school credit for Spanish 1. I recomment the slower version of the class  for middle school students who wish to get a jump on language learning. The content is the same for each class, but we slow things down to allow the younger learner to master each unit. This also keeps the work load lighter for those younger learners.

 

The traditional one-year class is just a you would expect: a full high school Spanish 1 class. This class will have homework, as language learning does require consistent practice.

 

I created the Charlemos curriculum because I was left frustrated with my high school Spanish experience. I found that I knew a lot of vocabulary and grammar, but could not communicate at all. So right from the beginning, the students are writing dialogs and speaking in class. I want them to be able to use Spanish not just know it.  I try to create environments that allow for a natural, flowing dialog to take place.  The lessons in Charlemos are taught in thematic communicative units. All vocabulary taught and all grammar taught are directly related to the communicative goals of the unit. So the vocabulary, phrases, questions, verb conjugations, etc. that are presented are only those that have immediate use for communication for the particular unit's theme.

 

Charlemos 1 classes meet once a week, for 1 ½  hours. The class fee, though dependent on class size is maximum $480/year. I do offer sibling discounts.

*This class will be a full Spanish 1 high school curriculum
spread over 2-3 years. This is purposefully a slowed down version, and is ideal for Junior High students (Starting with grade 7, perhaps 6 if highly motivated student). Students will leave class with a full Spanish 1 credit under their belt and will be ready to move right into the year long Charlemos 2 (the Spanish 2 high school credit class).
*This class is not officially formed and will depend on how many students would enroll.

Charlemos 2

“Let's Chat”

High School Spanish 2

Curriculum for students grade 8 and above

 

Charlemos 2 is a full Spanish 2 class, offering high school credit at the completion of the course. This year may be called “year of the verb tenses”. This class follows the same prinicples as Charlemos 1. All units are based on relative and interesting themes. All vocabulary and grammar is taught as they are needed to communicate within each unit's theme. This year also introduces some immersion experiences, in which student learn about a topic completely in Spanish. Topic could include: works of art, cuisine, festivities, an historical event, traditional dances – all concentrating on a Spanish speaking country or region.

 

 

Charlemos 1 classes meet once a week, for 1 ½  hours. The class fee, though dependent on class size is maximum $480/year. I do offer sibling

Charlemos 2: (Let's Chat 2) High school credit class

Duration: September 12th - May 15th, breaks at holidays
When: Tuesdays 3:15-4:45
